Master Stroke 1 – Primary Education

  • Tamilnadu showed a revolutionary improvement in the field of primary education, during the first 20 years after independence. When other states had not even provided temporary places for schools, Tamilnadu was making the headlines with its concrete buildings and good infrastructure.
  • The then Chief Minister, Kamarajar, made the maximum contribution to this. In the 1950s, Tamilnadu had 6000 primary schools. Thanks to the efforts of Kamarajar, the number rose to a whopping 27,000 in the 1960s! The data taken during that period shows that of the children who received primary education then, 77% received the opportunity solely due to the efforts of Kamarajar. This formed the foundation for all the developments that Tamilnadu has been achieving in the field of education.
